When I think of making cookies for Easter, these Cream Cheese Sprinkle Cookies always come to mind! They’re so cute! You can use any sprinkles you like, or even leave some cookies plain. Either way, they’re delicious!
The Ingredients for Cream Cheese Sprinkle Cookies
Here’s what you’ll need to make Cream Cheese Sprinkle Cookies:
- Cream cheese – use full fat, regular block cream cheese
- Butter – use regular salted butter
- Granulated sugar
- Egg
- Vanilla extract
- All-purpose flour
- Baking powder
- Sprinkles – you’ll likely need at least 1/2 cup
About the Sprinkles
A really important thing to know when making Cream Cheese Sprinkle Cookies is that you need good sprinkles. I’ve made the mistake of making these cookies without tasting the sprinkles first, only to find that I didn’t like the flavor of the sprinkles. Bummer!
Taste the sprinkles before you use them. Choose sprinkles that have good flavor because they are going to be a big part of the overall taste and texture of the cookies.
Here are the types of sprinkles you can use:
- Jimmies (these are the type I used)
- Nonpareils
- Sanding sugar
I wouldn’t suggest using any sprinkles that are very large. Click here to see a great breakdown of sprinkle types from Sarah’s Bake Studio.
Where Do I Buy the Sprinkles?
Since you’re going to need a large amount of sprinkles, you may need to buy some in a large amount than you’ll find at the grocery store. Check the baking aisle of a craft store.
I’m really lucky to live on the edge of what we call “Amish country,” so I go to an Amish store to get tubs of sprinkles.
Or, you can very easily order sprinkles on Amazon. Here are some of my favorite options on Amazon:
- 2-lb rainbow sprinkles
- Wilton sprinkles – 8 different colors, separated in different packages by color
- 1.8-lb nonpareil sprinkles
- 1.5-lb all natural sprinkles – no artificial dyes, vegan, lactose-free, gluten-free
- 8-ounce Wilton rainbow sanding sugar
Making Cream Cheese Sprinkle Cookies
To make Cream Cheese Sprinkle Cookies, begin by creaming together the butter and cream cheese with an electric mixer. Add the sugar, egg, and vanilla extract and beat for one minute.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients.
Add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and stir until combined and a soft dough forms.
Cover the dough in the bowl and chill in the refrigerator for 1 hour. After the dough has chilled, use a spoon or cookie scoop to form small dough balls, about 1 1/2 inches across. Roll the doughs between your palms to make them smooth and round. Roll the cookie dough balls in sprinkles until completely coated.
Place the cookie dough balls onto cookie sheets lined with parchment paper. Gently press the top of the cookies down to flatten just a bit (see image below).
Bake the cookies at 350ºF for just 9-10 minutes until set. Remove the cookies from the cookie sheets and cool on wire cooling racks.
Enjoy your cookies as soon as they cool!
Store the cookies at room temperature in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
