Oven Baked S’mores are the perfect treat on a rainy day, for a movie night, or to feed s’mores to a crowd. A perfectly toasty marshmallow topped with melted chocolate and sandwiched between two crisp graham crackers… what’s not to love?!
Indoor S’mores
Sometimes you have plans for a bonfire with s’mores and the weather just doesn’t cooperate. Or maybe you just need to make a bunch of s’mores for a party, wedding, or other event and are asking, “how do I make s’mores in the oven?”
I actually prefer s’mores made in the oven. I know, that sounds crazy! But making s’mores in the oven means a toasty marshmallow that is completely melted inside and it also means that the chocolate can get all melty too. It’s the most ooey gooey delicious s’more and you don’t even need a fire to make it!
So, when you can’t do a fire toasted marshmallow s’more, you will find the oven-baked version to be an amazing substitute.
Making Oven Baked S’mores
Start with the best ingredients:
The type of marshmallows you use is up to you. I suggest using two regular size marshmallows, but there are also square marshmallows just for making s’mores and I think they’re awesome too.
Hershey’s chocolate bars is a must. They are just the most perfect chocolate bars out there!
To make oven baked s’mores, you’ll place squares of graham crackers on a cookie sheet. I suggest you line the cookie sheet with foil first to make the clean up easy.
Next, top the graham crackers with two regular size marshmallows, or one of the big square marshmallows:
Next, you’ll toast the marshmallows in the oven set to broil. Do not walk away. I repeat: DO NOT WALK AWAY.
Marshmallows will go from fine to ON FIRE in your oven rather quickly under a broiler. They only need a minute to get golden brown on top, so put them in the oven and stand there until the minute has passes. Check them to be sure they’re not burning, then let them toast a few seconds longer if needed.
Turn your oven off, remove the sheet of marshmallow topped graham crackers from the oven, then top each of them with Hershey’s chocolate:
Now, return the cookie sheet to the oven for 30 seconds so the chocolate can melt.
Finally, top the oven baked s’mores with another graham cracker square.
Serve right away!
If you have any left overs, let them come to room temperature so the chocolate solidifies. Then, store the s’mores in an air tight container on the counter for up to two days to enjoy any time.

I like yo use Nestle’s ‘Crunch’ Bars for my s’mores. BTW: my name is S.Moore. ;}
I tried toasting marshmallows under the broiler twice. The first time, I stayed right there watching, and kept opening the oven door because I always knew that broiling should be watched. After 8 minutes, they weren’t really at all toasty, so I gave up and put them into crisy rice treats. The second time, I thought, “It may take longer than the last time – definitely longer than the 2 minutes that the recipe called for, but I’m going to try again.” I put them in, closed the oven door and set the timer for 3 minutes. When I opened it, a fire was RAGING in the oven. I screamed inside, panicked, turned off the oven, shut the door, gave it some time, then opened the door again and the fire was even bigger. Smoke was pouring out of the oven. Called the husband for help. We sprayed the marshmallows down with water, which put out the fire. The tray of marshmallows had risen, spilled over the tray, and was black char. Our house was filled with smoke. We opened the windows and a door, but the alarm still went off. We tossed the tray of black marshmallows out in the -20 degree C onto our snowy front step to finish smoking, dealt with the smoke alarm, and had 3 hours of clean up in the now-freezing house. Melted sticky goo was all over the inside of the oven. Do not bow to the pressure of your oven saying, “CLOSE DOOR”, or trust that just because they didn’t cook last time, that it means they won’t incinerate in half that time on the next try. Watch that stuff! The oven did need a cleaning though, so that got done.
