Do the Cookies Stay Fresh on the Counter?
These cookies are at their very best when fresh. If we don’t eat them right away, I freeze them and take out one cookie at a time as needed for lunch boxes. Otherwise, they get dry and crumbly after a couple of days on the counter.
Topping the Cookie
Here are some other ideas for topping your Amish Sugar Cookies:
- Frosting – Add your favorite frosting and even some sprinkles.
- Powdered Sugar – A light dusting of powdered sugar would be really pretty.
- Strawberry Shortcake – Place a cookie or two in a bowl, then top with fresh sliced strawberries that have been macerated with granulated sugar, plus a big dollop of whipped cream.
How to Store the Cookies
Keep the cookies in an airtight container on the counter or in the refrigerator for up to three days. You can add a slice of white bread to help maintain the moisture.
Freeze the cookies in zip top freezer bags for up to three months.
