Spicy Ketchup Yum
Isn’t it true that so many foods are better with the right condiment? Maybe it’s just me (I doubt it), but fries need ketchup, burgers need your favorite toppings, chips need salsa, Chick-fil-A nuggets need Chick-fil-A sauce, fried rice needs yum-yum sauce. It’s all about the condiments!
We used to have a joke about our refrigerator when I was growing up. We would go look for a snack and say, “there’s nothing to eat! BUT we have all the condiments!” The fridge doors were always overflowing with bottles and jars of every possible condiment needed for… anything.
But over the years, I’ve downsized. Yeah, I could buy honey mustard. But why when I can just mix honey and mustard together to get just the right flavor? Yes, I could buy spicy ketchup. But there is no need when I can just add spice to my ketchup with other ingredients I already have on hand!
That was the inspiration behind this Spicy Chipotle Ketchup Recipe. Chipotle peppers keep nicely in your pantry for all sorts of recipes. Chipotle chili powder is a nice addition to your spice rack, if you don’t have it already. And this leaves just one condiment to take up space in your refrigerator doors: ketchup!
Making Spicy Chipotle Ketchup
Ketchup is great as it is, but sometimes you just want a little something extra. To achieve a spicy chipotle flavor, you’ll add ketchup, chipotle chili peppers in adobo sauce, and chipotle chili powder to a blender.
Blend everything super well until it’s all smooth. Now you have zippy spicy chipotle ketchup!
Go easy on the peppers at first. I added two the first time I made this and thought my tongue was on fire when I tasted it! One little pepper was just enough heat for me, but if you like it really hot, add as many as you like!
