I Got an Instant Pot… Now What?
I was super excited to receive my Instant Pot for Christmas last year. My husband went all out and got me the big 6-quart 7-in-1 Instant Pot that can be used to pressure cook, slow cook, make yogurt, make rice, saute, and a bunch of other things. How awesome is that?!
The problem was I had no idea how to use my Instant Pot! So the poor thing sat in my guest room for 6 months. Last weekend I decided it had to be pulled out and finally used. My first project? Baked potatoes!

Instant Pot Baked Potatoes
Making baked potatoes in my Instant Pot was so easy! I just placed the trivet in the pot:
…added clean, medium size potatoes that I pricked with a fork a few times…
…poured a cup of water into the bottom of the Instant Pot (be sure it doesn’t touch the potatoes or the water will mess with the texture)…
…and after just a few minutes I had perfect baked potatoes!
My potatoes were medium-large, so I pressure cooked them for 13 minutes and they were wonderful. I really liked how the skin was much more tender than with oven baked potatoes.

Description
Are you wondering how to make baked potatoes in your Instant Pot? You will love this incredibly easy method that will have baked potatoes on your table much quicker than using your oven!
Ingredients
- 4–6 medium potatoes
- 1 cup water
Instructions
- Run the potatoes under cold water and scrub the skin clean. Pat the potatoes dry with a clean towel and then pierce each potato several times with a fork.
- Place the trivet into the Instant Pot. Add 1 cup of water to the bottom of the Instant Pot, but be sure the water does not come above the bottom of the trivet (you don’t want the water to touch the bottom of the potatoes).
- Add the potatoes to the Instant Pot (stacking the potatoes is okay).
- Cover the Instant Pot with the lid and lock into place. Turn the team valve to “sealing.” Set to high pressure for 10 minutes for small potatoes, 13 minutes for medium potatoes, or 18 minutes for extra large potatoes.
- At the end of the cooking time, allow the Instant Pot to naturally release pressure for 10 minutes. At the end of the 10 minutes, turn the steam valve to “release.” Once the pressure has released, open the Instant Pot lid.
- Serve potatoes hot with toppings such as butter, salt, sour cream, and shredded cheese.
Makes 4-6 servings.
Notes
Optional: to crisp the skin of the potatoes after they’ve cooked in the Instant Pot, brush each potato with olive oil and wrap in foil. Bake in the oven for 5 minutes at 400 degrees.

What a great idea and they would use a lot less electricity than putting your oven on for an hour.

I still don’t have an instant pot but now I’m almost convinced I could really use one. Baked potatoes in 13 minutes without heating up the house in the summer is good reason.
