This Classic Pecan Pie Recipe is perfect for dessert after dinner with friends, a sweet ending to your Thanksgiving dinner, or for a comforting treat with a cup of coffee on a chilly autumn afternoon.
The Other Thanksgiving Pie
I know pumpkin pie is the traditional Thanksgiving pie, but I also think of pecan pie as a holiday favorite. To me, this Classic Pecan Pie Recipe is just right for making the other Thanksgiving pie!
Which pies are your favorites? So far I’ve shared several of mine here on Mom Needs Chocolate including Classic Pumpkin Pie, Dutch Apple Pie, Four Ingredient Berry Pie, and a recipe for Homemade Shortening Pie Crust. Check them out!
The Right Crust
There are two types of crust that I like for my Classic Pecan Pie Recipe:
- Pillsbury refrigerated pie crust – this one is easy and tastes great!
- Homemade Shortening Pie Crust (my own recipe here on Mom Needs Chocolate!)

Making the Classic Pecan Pie Recipe
I do believe that pecan pie is the easiest pie I make! It’s very simple, so even beginners can tackle this recipe.
One big issue to avoid: burning the pecan pie.
Pecan pies have a lot of sugar content, so they do burn easily. Keep a close eye on your pie during the second half of baking. I didn’t do this last Thanksgiving and ended up with two burned pecan pie’s. Such a bummer!

So true this is such a classic pie, though not quite as much where I am in New England. But I’d love a slice of this with my coffee!
