Raise your hand if you love easy and delicious ideas for dinner! (me… I’m raising my hand…) You’ll really love these light and fluffy Angel Biscuits paired with sour or a salad.

Angel Biscuits are a favorite of my family and go so well with any soup. These biscuits use yeast which gives them a really soft texture that is less crumbly than other biscuits.

I just mix up the simple dough, then roll it out on a floured surface into a 6×6 inch square.

The dough cuts easily into 9 squares.

The biscuits are then baked on a greased cookie sheet. Here I use a silicon pad instead of greasing the cookie sheet:

Perfect!

Ingredients

Scale

1 package yeast
1/3 cup warm water
1 teaspoon sugar or honey
2 cups flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup milk

Instructions

1. Mix together the yeast, warm water, and sugar or honey. Set aside for 5 minutes until foamy.
2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and baking powder. Cut in the butter until completely combined.
3. Add milk and the yeast mixture to the dry ingredients. Mix until combined then turn out onto a floured surface and knead for 30 seconds (dough will be sticky).
4. Pat the dough into a 6×6 inch square and cut into 9 square biscuits.
5. Place the biscuits onto a greased baking sheet and put the cookie sheet into a cold oven. Set the oven to 400 degrees. (The biscuits actually rise while the oven heats!) When the temperature reaches 400, bake for 10 minutes until golden brown.
Makes 9 servings.

Yum!! Have you tried adding cheese or herbs to these biscuits? I think I might add some smoked paprika to the soups. Thank you for sharing!

I’m not sure the comments are still open but I love this recipe. My family recipe makes enough to feed an army & uses buttermilk which I don’t always have. (DIY buttermilk just isn’t the same.) Your recipe comes together so quickly & putting them in a cold oven makes the biscuits rise so high. Thanks much for posting this.
