Apple Picking Day
Apple picking is one of my favorite fall activities. The cool autumn air matches the crisp and perfect freshness of a sweet apple.
I encourage you to start a tradition of visiting a local orchard to pick apples every fall if you are able. There is nothing like eating an apple the moment it is picked from the tree!
Apple picking is a fun activity for all ages. I love showing my daughter where our food comes from whenever possible. An activity as simple as climbing a tree and picking apples is so healthy and simple; we all need more of this in our busy lives!
The Best Apple Crisp I’ve Ever Eaten
Apple desserts are some of my absolute favorite. Apple pie, strudel, sauce, muffins, cake… but the one I always crave is apple crisp. Over the years I’ve made apple crisp many different ways. But last year I whipped up an amazing double crumb apple crisp and I’ll never again use another recipe. I think you’ll love it too!
This recipe will feed a crowd, so I recommend a 4 quart 10×14 inch baking dish. Click here to see the Pyrex version that I used and recommend.

For the last 5 or 6 years one of our favorite fall family traditions has been pressing fresh apple cider. We get together with a dozen other families and press a bin of apples. After a few hours of fun work we walk away with 70 or 80 gallons of fresh pressed cider we enjoy all winter long. Thanks for the recipe; it's hard to be a good apple crisp!

Holy Moly! This was amazing! It replaced my go to recipe. We are blessed to have several apple trees on our property, one of them is a Granny Smith tree! I made this yesterday and it was a HIT! One thing I do for baking is use a higher end butter. I prefer Kerrygold butter. It is from Ireland grass fed cows. Thanks for the great recipe!

Could old fashioned oats be substituted here?
carissashaw says
It is possible, but I have not tried it. If someone does try this recipe with Old Fashioned oats, let us know how it works out!

Thanks for sharing this recipe. I cut this recipe in half and was in a hurry so I didn’t do a bottom layer crust. I also added vanilla to the apples along with a little flour to thicken it. I added a few more spices such as clove and allspice. I used regular oats since I didn’t have quick oats and it turned out great! Soooooo yummy and simple. Definitely will make this again. Thank you!

I’ve made this several times and it’s a huge hit. The layer of crisp is what makes this recipe to die for. It definitely takes it up a notch and you’re brilliant to come up with adding the extra layer. I NEVER make moments on any recipes but I wanted to thank you so much for sharing. Good job!

I absoutely love this recipe and use it all the time. I love the double crust ( top & bottom) because you can never get enough of the crisp. I use organic honey crisp apples so I cut down on the sugar and everyone loves it. Thanks for sharing. Itโs truly THE BEST!

I absolutely loved this apple crisp.
But I think k needs more flour mixed with the apples. I had alot of liquid.
