Million Dollar Rice is a family-favorite side dish that goes perfectly with fish, grilled or baked chicken, or roast beef. You won’t believe how easy this is to make!
The Can Opener Situation
Making Million Dollar Rice requires something pretty important… a good can opener! Why are can openers such a hassle? I have never met an electric can opener that I didn’t want to throw out the kitchen window. Manual can openers get rusty and dull all too quickly. I’ve basically hated every can opener I’ve ever owned… until this one!
My husband bought me a PowerLix can opener (affiliate link!) and as I was snapping pictures for this Million Dollar Rice recipe, I thought to myself, “I need readers to know how awesome this can opener is!”
It’s so easy to use! It works perfectly every time and pretty much eliminates those sharp edges. I love this can opener. Just thought you should know. 🙂
The Easiest Side Dish I’ve Ever Loved
Million Dollar Rice is my favorite side dish. It’s so easy to whip up and super delicious! I like to serve it with Gorton’s Skillet Crisp Tilapia Filets. Have you seen these in the freezer section? I toss them onto a pan straight from the freezer and bake them while the rice bakes. I serve the rice and fish with tartar sauce and some kind of green veggie. Easiest dinner solution!
How to Make Million Dollar Rice
To make the Million Dollar Rice, pour a can of beef broth (I suggest low sodium!), a can of French onion soup (I like Campbell’s), and a cup of uncooked white rice (the cheaper the better! Ha!) into a square casserole dish. You could also double the recipe and use a larger Pyrex dish.

After you’ve spent a whole 30 seconds dumping ingredients into a dish, just cut some butter into pats and lay them on top of the rice mixture.
Finally, you’ll cover the casserole with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for another 30 minutes. Then you get this…
It looks nice, but it tastes even better!

Can you use Minute Rice in this?
carissashaw says
No, it would need to be regular uncooked white rice for the recipe to work.
Erika Jones says
Do you think brown rice would work okay with this recipe?
carissashaw says
I definitely think you could try! I have not used brown rice in this recipe, so I can’t say exactly how it will turn out. If you do try it with brown rice, do let us know how it works out for you!

I never know what kind of rice to use when ppl say “regular white rice” I mean what is that? I have like 11 kinds of rice in my house at any given time and half of them are white, jasmine, basmati, etc.
Also, for the broth…..I makeA LOT of rice as you might be able to guess. I don’t usually use a lot of liquid. So if I break down the ounces into cups that’s 14 cups of broth? Does that sound right?

It says 1-14ounce can. Maybe you misread it to be 114?

How would I do this in the instant pot??

Hello! I want to make this this week because it looks delicious. I notice that the PowerLix can opener is no longer available on Amazon. However there are several others that look just like it. Is a cheaper one as good as one that is a few dollars more? Any idea which one is the best? Thanks.

Can I cook it longer at a lower temp?
