Fabulous white teeth are incredibly important part of your health and beauty routine! I’ve been using the new Colgate® Optic White Express White Toothpaste® and am really thrilled with the results. In only three days* my teeth were so white! To show off my healthy smile I made shiny lip glosses and am happy to share my methods with you.

I love lip gloss! I use it every day and have quite a collection. Being the fan that I am, I decided making my own was a must. It’s easy and you can use ingredients you probably already have on hand. Plus, you can adjust the colors to be exactly how you like them.

My favorite way to make lip gloss is by using coconut oil, petroleum jelly with cocoa butter, and some type of coloring.

STEP 1: Collect the tools and ingredients you’ll need for the project:

  • Petroleum jelly with cocoa butter
  • Organic virgin coconut oil
  • A bowl
  • A spoon
  • A one tablespoon measuring spoon
  • Makeup for color – I use brown eye shadow. Some lipstick would really be an easy method for getting great color.
  • Small containers – I found mine at Walmart in the craft department. They’re actually for bead storage, but work well for homemade lip glosses too. You can also use empty mint tins.

STEP 2: Melt 2 tablespoons of coconut oil in a small bowl in a microwave for 20 seconds. Stir to make sure it’s smooth.

STEP 3: Scrape a good amount of powdered eye shadow onto a small plate. I used a cocoa brown and a shimmery brown. Brown is a great color on lips. It helps enhance your natural lip color.

STEP 4: Mix your eye shadow powder (or lipstick) into the melted coconut oil.

STEP 5: Add in 1 tablespoon of petroleum jelly with cocoa butter and mix well until completely combined.

STEP 6: Spoon the mixture into small lip gloss containers. Cover with the lids and refrigerate until set.

Ta da!

Another way to make homemade lip gloss is very similar but uses powdered drink mix for flavor and color. Once it’s mixed up you’ll notice it is very gritty and sour. But after setting it should be much better. This was a really fun project for my little girl!

Follow all of the above steps, but instead of mixing in the makeup you’ll use one package of Watermelon flavored drink mix (0.15 oz package). I also tried cherry flavor and it came out to be very light pink, which was nice too (purple color in the lip gloss container is watermelon and light pink in the bowl is cherry).

The third way I have made lip gloss is 100% natural with no artificial colors. It’s super simple! Just melt 1 tablespoon of organic virgin coconut oil in a small bowl in a microwave for 20 seconds. Stir in some all natural unsweetened cocoa powder for color. Pour into two lip gloss pods and allow to set before using.

I should mention that I have freckles on my lips, which is where the uneven color comes from. Haha! The lip gloss has a nice smooth color.

Colgate® Optic White Express White Toothpaste® is an easy and fast way to whiter teeth. It takes just three days to whiten teeth, and all you do is brush! Colgate® Optic White Express White Toothpaste® has twice as much of the professionally recommended whitening ingredients vs Optic White Sparkling Mint toothpaste. I found mine at Walmart:

BONUS INFO: Many Walmart stores will have a roaming Colgate® demo on February 28th, 2015. This means there will be a Colgate® ambassador handing out $1 coupons for Express White® Toothpaste products. Be sure to get your coupon when you’re shopping on the 28th!

Have a great day!

I love this recipe! I run, sometimes in 15F weather, and I cannot do without my homemade lip gloss – far better than any other product to help prevent and heal windburn on my lips! I suggest two additional things: if you want, emergen-c packets add vitamin c, color, and flavor. Mines still looks clear when I wear it. And, you can always add a few drops of essential oils for flavor/scent.

I'm due to make a new batch soon!
