Spring is here and Easter is right around the corner! I’m typing right now as I watch the deer in my back yard and the trees swaying gently in the warm breeze. What a beautiful time of year!
Being a full-time working mom means I have to be extra creative with how we celebrate holidays. I am a big fan of Easter and want my daughter to experience all of the fun that goes along with the spring season. To keep from stretching myself too thin, I plan a few activities (visit to the Easter Bunny, church service on Easter followed by dinner and an Easter egg hunt) and then plan very simple little activities for the days leading up to Easter. And I do mean simple! This week we are decorating the kitchen with inexpensive Easter decorations. During a few days spread out over the next few weeks, my daughter will be surprised to find an Easter egg hunt snack in her lunchbox. Yep, that’s right… an Easter egg hunt themed snack! It’s a cute surprise, and of course I make it very easy for us parents to pull together.
To make an easy Easter egg hunt themed snack, start with a 6-pack of chocolate and/or vanilla flavored Snack Packs. I picked them up at Walmart:
These sweet little treat cups are the base of my easy Easter snacking inspiration. Here are some mix-ins you’ll need:
- Shredded coconut colored green with food coloring
- One crushed OREO per snack that you’ll be making
- Small Easter egg shaped chocolate candies
Plus Easter stickers for decorating the Snack Pack cup.
Making green coconut for “grass” is so simple. Just pour some coconut into a zip top bag then add a few drops of green food coloring and shake it up.
An Easter egg hunt themed Snack Pack can be set up in this order:
- Apply Easter stickers to the Snack Pack cup.
- Sprinkle the crushed OREO over the pudding.
- Spring the green coconut over the OREOs.
- Hide a few chocolate Easter eggs in the “grass” (or just set them on top of the grass the way I did).
Now, the way I packed up the ingredients for this little lunch time “snacktivity” is really cute, but first let me show you two other adorable ideas for decorating a Snack Pack:
Use a Golden OREO, pink (or any color) sprinkles, two mini chocolate chips, and a little bit of pink frosting in a piping bag with a small tip (or a zip top bag with a tiny bit snipped off of one corner) to make a little Easter chick!
Our third Easter Snack Pack idea was to make this adorable Easter bunny with wafer cookies (used a knife to round the corners), icing, pink sprinkles, Redi Whip, and a black marker to make a bunny face:
So, now let me show you how I packed up the mix-ins to make a lunchbox surprise! All of the needed mix-ins for the Easter egg hunt themed Snack Pack were packed into clean plastic Easter eggs. For the picture’s sake I placed all of the mix-ins in one egg, but in reality I used one small plastic egg for the crushed OREOs, another for the candies, and another for the green coconut. To keep the eggs from breaking open, just use a little tape on one spot on the seam of the egg then put the plastic eggs, Snack Pack, and a spoon in a zip top bag and pop it into your child’s lunchbox. What a sweet way to let your kids know you care about making their holidays extra fun!
Now… a little something extra… I mixed some lemon pie filling into my vanilla Snack Pack, topped it with a Golden OREO and some Redi Whip and… wow! What a great way for ME to celebrate spring!
